NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Elementary Dress Code for 2008-09

“These things command and teach.  Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”  (I Timothy 4:12)

We believe that this command has a practical application to the dress and grooming of the students.  It is therefore; appropriate to conduct ourselves in good taste and modesty.  Extreme fads and styles in clothing and jewelry that depict subculture movements are inappropriate.  NCS is most effective when parents support this philosophy.  The dress code has been established by considering various factors such as: comfort, safety, modesty, appropriateness, and ease of enforcement.

Enforcing the dress code is not the sole responsibility of the school.  We expect parents to cooperate with the school in monitoring their child’s daily attire to assure compliance with the NCS dress code.

Full-day kindergarten (Peoria campus) and 1st-6th gradeShirts are limited to polo shirts (short or long sleeves). Good  sources are: Dennis Uniform, J.C. Penney Company, Lands’ End, Sears, Mervyn’s, or French Toast.  Students are to wear shorts, slacks, skirts, skorts, capris, or jumpers made from twill or corduroy from a uniform shop of your choice (or another store that sells the same style) in solid navy or tan (khaki) colors.

·       Shirts are to be one solid color of your choice with no designs, logos, pictures, or words. Polo shirts have a button placket (no snaps, zippers, laces, etc.), a collar, and long or short sleeves.  Shirts must be long enough to fully cover the stomach when arms are raised.  Shirts may be visibly layered under a standard polo shirt.

·       Shorts, capris (for girls) and slacks are “docker” style, with a set-on waistband, zipper, and no more than 4 pockets (two pockets in front, and two pockets in back).  No jeans are allowed.  Shorts are to be longer than the fingertips and no longer than the bend of the knee. Pant attire with cargo pockets may be worn if purchased from Dennis Uniform.

·       Jumpers, skirts, or skorts are to be longer than the fingertips.  Skirts may be straight or pleated.  Girls are encouraged to wear shorts under jumpers and skirts for modesty.  No dresses are allowed.  No cargo pockets are allowed. Plaid skirts and jumpers may be worn if they are the NCS approved apparel purchased from Dennis Uniform.

Half-day kindergarten – Kindergarten students at the main campus will follow the preschool dress code wearing long pants or shorts (no dresses, skirts, jumpers, or overalls).  You have your choice of shirts.  If the shirts have pictures or slogans, they are to be Christian based.   Footwear is limited to tennis/athletic shoes.

DRESS CODE VIOLATION POLICY:

Parents have the responsibility to send their children to school dressed and groomed appropriately. Parents of students in violation of dress code will be notified, and the student will not go out to recess until the violation is corrected.  Failure to wear the correct clothes will be treated as a disobedience issue and will be handled as such. Students unsure of the appropriateness of any clothing should receive administrative approval before wearing it.

To find the styles listed in the dress code, see the uniform department at: Dennis Uniform, J.C. Penney Company, Lands’ End, Sears, Mervyn’s, or French Toast.  Since styles vary from store to store, please be sure that the uniform items you select conform to the above descriptions.
