NCS Business/Computer Department
Northwest Christian School has been blessed with three fully equipped computer labs: two on the
main campus and one on the Peoria campus. On the main campus, high school students exclusively
use the Secondary Lab, and junior high and elementary students use the Elementary Lab.
Students have the opportunity to learn everything from keyboarding, to MS Office 2003, to
computer programming and web design. Students are taught the basics and build in a series of
classes to the more technical skills. We expect mastery of keyboarding basics in the 7th grade.
Students are then ready to learn the many applications taught in our high school classes.
The three computer labs have similar environments: Windows XP, 17" monitors, and optical mice.
Applications include the full suite of Microsoft Office 2003 products, Mavis Beacon Teaches
Typing, McGraw Hill's Keyboarding with Computer Applications (KCA), and SAM 2003 Fundamentals.
Internet usage is limited to teacher approved sites only and Thomson Gale Resource database.
The lab server runs Windows Server 2003. Students can access their files from any PC. Using a
program called Vision, the lab teachers can lock, supervise, demonstrate, and shutdown the
student PCs from the teacher's PC.

courses he/she may take in the future.
Computer Programming Concepts II--Grades: 10-12
Semester: 1
Credit: Business: This is an elective credit (1/2)
Prerequisite: Computer Programming Concepts I
Students extend their knowledge about programming constructs, and how to debug programs.
Details such as hexadecimal numbers and computer math are explored. Computer limitations are
examined. Programs will be enhanced to read and write to disk. Students are exposed to
developing programs in a team environment. More complicated (and useful) programs are written in
different areas (physics, algebra, business, graphics, etc.)
